YABATECH Hosts Art Fair Lagos

Yaba College of Technology in conjunction with the National Gallery of Art on Thursday organized an Art Fair Exhibition. The Fair featured Artworks of Lecturers of the School of Art, Design, and Printing.

In his opening remark, the Director General of, the National Gallery of Art, Ebetan Williams Ivara disclosed that the Art Fair Lagos was propelled by the National Gallery of Art’s

new found love to partner with Art Schools in Nigeria and its desire to bridge the divide between Town and Gown in visual art and practice.

“There is this disconcerted notion that art teachers especially at the tertiary level are concerned with theories and publications to further the advancement of their career and that they are insulated as it were from the humdrum of studio practice. This I declare is a wrong nation” he said.

The Rector, Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Abdul who was represented at the ceremony by the Deputy Rector (Academics), Dr. Ismailia Badmus lauded the National Gallery of Art for turning its beam on Yaba College of Technology and other higher Art Schools in Nigeria.

He said, “I must applaud and thank the management of NGA for carrying the academia along in the quest to keep the issues of the Nigerian visual arts sector on the front burner.”

He noted that the opportunity of the Art Fair Lagos will afford the College community and visitors alike to experience the vibrant art expressions of the lecturers of the College.

There were goodwill messages from Art icons who have associated in one way or the other with Yabatech, among them include, Chief Timothy Fasuyi, Prof. Kunle Filani, Kolade Osinowo, and Pa Jerome Elaiho.
