The final year students of Mass Communication, Yaba College of Technology on Thursday, March 31, organized a photo exhibition which showcases their creativity and ability to communicate with audience through photos which portray social media as a tool that promotes fake life.
The Rector, Engr. Femi Omokungbe represented by Sub-dean, School of Liberal Studies Mr. Sule Olatunji, expressed his pleasure towards the students’ hard work and applauded their creativity, for coming together using pictures as medium to fight against fake life style on social media, as many youths are being carried away by the illusion presented by the social media.
He said “This has been the best photo exhibition so far in the history of student exhibition at Yabatech, and I really commend the aura of teamwork emitting from the students, to see that this exhibition is a success. I really appreciate the student’s hard work and creativity; it is good to see that they are able to use pictures to pass strong and meaningful messages to our society. It is impressive on how they dissuade youths from patronizing the hoaxes that social media flaunts.”
With over 72 pieces of photo art on display, the students were able to communicate effectively to guests the irony of the exuberant and luxurious life style constantly displayed on social media.
Furthermore, The Rector called on other academic department in the college to borrow a leaf from the department of mass communication so as to nurture the potentials that lie within the students, and to motivate them to live up to their potentials.
The exhibition by final year students of both national diploma and higher national diploma students was attended by the Rector, the sub-dean Mr. Sule Olatunji , Mrs. Funke Adesanya- HOD of the department, College PRO, Mr. Joe Ejiofor and top officials of the institution, was organized and supervised by Mr. Olagoke Oluwafemi, a lecturer of Photography in the department.
