Deputy Governor, Central Bank Of Nigeria, Mrs Aisha Ahmad, has held a virtual coffee table chat with former Minister for Communication and ICT, Omobola Johnson, urging for technological access & benefits for women, youth and rural dwellers to enable their participation in the digital economy.
Mrs. Aisha via twitter restated the bank’s commitment to closing the gender gap in financial inclusion by addressing the digital gender gap through innovation & technology.
Dr. Omobola Johnson, Senior Partner with TLcom Capital and Nigeria’s pioneer Minister of Communications and Technology, enjoined policymakers to make STEM (science, Technology, Engineering and Math) more attractive to women/girls and grow women’s participation in the tech industry.
Dr. Johnson additionally canvassed for the establishment of special funds for female led tech businesses to achieve greater participation of women in the digital economy.
In addition, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Mariam Katagum, called for more focus and attention on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) instead of just STEM, adding that women’s active participation in creative industry should be encouraged
