The Federal Government has said THAT No fewer than 51 million Nigerians have enrolled for the National Identity Number.
The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, disclosed this TODAY in Abuja while briefing State House correspondents.
The minister further disclosed THAT 189 million Subscribers Identification Modules have been registered in the country out of which 150 million registrations have been completed.
The others, he said, had issues of improper registration.
Pantami also disclosed that it was a criminal offence punishable by imprisonment for any Nigerian to transact business like opening a bank account, pay taxes among others without having NIN.
He further reiterated that Nigerians without NIN risked 14 years imprisonment as stipulated by the Constitution.
