Usman Alkali, the Inspector-General of Police, has pledged to continue efforts to reduce crime and criminality while also improving public safety and security across the country.
This was stated by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in which the Inspector-General of Police congratulated the entire Muslim ummah in the country on the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
The IGP also charged Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Tactical Commanders in all of the Federation’s States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as their supervisory Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), with beefing up security ahead of Eid-el-Fitr.
The Inspector-General of Police has directed that supervisory AIGs and their respective CPs ensure adequate deployment of officers and assets to critical locations, particularly Eid Prayer Grounds and recreation centers, in order to instill confidence in citizens and tourists.
The Police Chief also charged officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force with conducting critical assessments of threat-prone areas, conducting thorough stop and search operations, raids on black spots, and other anti-crime strategies capable of sustaining peace and public safety in Nigeria.
IGP, on the other hand, warned that personnel deployed must be professional and mindful of citizens’ fundamental rights while carrying out their responsibilities with all decorum and alertness.
In the same vein, the IGP urged Muslim faithful to celebrate and enjoy the beauty of the important season while remaining vigilant about security.
